Girls Lacrosse Tops Steward After Slow Start

Anna Winn and Ellie Robertson each scored five times as the Oaks girls lacrosse team ran past the Steward School, 16-9.

The Oaks are 2-5 on the season and play Bishop Sullivan Catholic High School on Thursday.

Boys Lacrosse Downs Steward School

Abe Musselmani scored six goals and Maxwell Voos won 20 of 21 faceoffs as the Oaks boys lacrosse team stormed past Steward School, 15-6.

The team plays Ocean Lakes on Tuesday and is at Bishop Sullivan Catholic High School on Thursday.

Girls Lax Split Games

The girls lacrosse team split their games last week, downing Nansemond-Suffolk Academy, 14-8, then bowing to Cape Henry Collegiate, 12-10.

In the Nansemond-Suffolk win, sophomore goalie Tracie Barraclough had 12 saves. Freshman Ellie Robertson notched four goals, one assist, and two draw controls. Senior Ashley Obermeyer chipped in with three goals, five draw controls, and two ground ball controls. Junior Anna Winn had three goals, one assist, three draw controls and one caused turnover. Freshman Finely Connors scored three goals. Senior Gabby Grinnan contributed two goals, one assist and one caused turnover.

The defense led by Freshman Katie Sullivan had one draw control, three ground ball controls and caused one turnover. Junior Melody Williford had a strong showing on defense, matching stick for stick with her attackers. Emma Wentworth helped on both ends of the field playing attack, midfield, and defense during the game.

Against Cape Henry, Collegiate was down by four at halftime but came roaring out to make three quick scores, then added another to tie the game at 8.

Senior attack Gabby Grinnan had three goals and one caused turnover. Freshman midfielder Ellie Robertson had two goals, and two draw controls along with one caused turnover. Freshman attacker Finley Connors had two goals. Senior midfielder Ashley Obermeyer had one goal, seven draw controls, two ground ball controls and four caused turnovers. Junior midfielder Anna Winn had three draw controls and three caused turnovers.

The defense was led by Freshman Katie Sullivan, who caused four turnovers, two leading to down the field goals for her. Junior Melody Williford had three caused turnovers and was key in recovering shots on goal.

The team, now 3-2, plays Steward School at home on Tuesday and travels to Norfolk Academy on Friday night.

Boys Lacrosse Downs Christian, Improves Record

The boys lacrosse team upped its record to 3-4 with a 14-7 shellacking of Norfolk Christian last week.

Sophomore Abe Musselmani scored seven goals — half the team’s total — to lead the Oaks. Senior Bryson Pettrey added four.

The team plays away this week at the Steward School and Norfolk Academy.

Girls Lacrosse Earns Second Win

The girls’ lacrosse team dispatched Christchurch School, 18-6, in an away game last week.

The Oaks had a balanced attack. Senior Gabby Grinnan had five goals and one assist while fellow senior Ashley Obermeyer scored once and contributed one assist. Junior Anna Winn notched three goals and one assist, junior Frances Pierce had one goal, freshman Ellie Robertson had three goals and two assists, freshman Finley Connors had three goals, and freshman Abby McMonagle and Skylar Anne Foster each had one goal.

On defense, junior Ally Symmes and freshman Katie Sullivan each had three caused turnovers and juniors Emma Wentworth, Melody Williford and Megan Silverman all had key defensive plays which lead to turnovers. Ellie Robertson led the ground ball control with five.

The team plays away at Nansemond-Suffolk Academy on Wednesday and Cape Henry Collegiate on Thursday.

 

Girls Lacrosse Opens Season with Win, Loss

The Collegiate girls lacrosse squad bowed to visiting Sidwell Friends Saturday at home, the team’s first loss of the season after an opening 19-4 win over Christchurch School.

Goalie Tracie Barraclough had nine saves. Freshman Ellie Robertson scored twice and had two assists. Fellow freshman Finley Connors scored four points, one off of a turn over by defensive Freshman Katie Sullivan who made a run and pass to Finley. Senior Ashley Obermeyer also had one goal.

The team plays Thursday at Christchurch.

Boys Lacrosse Bows Out at TCIS Quarterfinal; Soccer Plays Today

The boys lacrosse season ended Monday with a 15-4 loss at Cape Henry in the Tidewater Conference quarterfinals.

The team ended the season with a 4-9 record.

Meanwhile, the surging girls soccer team entered the TCIS tournament as the second seed and plays Norfolk Christian at home today at 4 p.m.

Improving Girls Lax Team Loses Close Ones

The improving girls lacrosse team lost two close matches, 14-13 to Maury High School and 12-11 to Cox High School in the last week.

The team is now 0-9 on the season.

Boys Lacrosse Earns Second Win

Bryson Pettrey scored four times and Luke Windley added three as the Oaks defeated Maury High School handily, 12-6, this week.

The win was the second of the season for Collegiate, which next plays Thursday at home against First Colonial and then Tuesday at home against Norfolk Christian. The team is 2-6 on the season.

Boys Lacrosse Team Earns First Win

The boys lacrosse team notched its first win of the season over the Princess Anne club team Tuesday at home, 9-5.

Jack Wentworth had four goals for the Oaks.
