Thrilla in BillyBurg; Oaks Atop TCIS

DSC_7244_DxOSenior Kyonze Chavis hit a three-point bomb with a defender hanging on him to send the game into overtime and the Oaks took it from there, defeating Walsingham Academy, 71-59, in double overtime Friday night.

The win puts the Oaks in sole possession of first place in the Tidewater Conference of Independent Schools. The Oaks are now 18-3 on the season.

Once again, Collegiate came roaring back from a late deficit, overcoming a nine-point Walsingham lead in the last 1:31 of regulation.

Bash Townes again led Collegiate with 22 points.

The team, ranked third in the region, plays at Green Run High School, ranked first, at 8 p.m. tonight.
