Soccer Team Starts Slow, Falls to State #1

DSC_8200St. Catherine’s scored within the first minute and then twice more within ten minutes and the Oaks girls soccer team couldn’t recover despite numerous chances, losing,  3-1, on Wednesday.

Cameron Brown scored midway through the first half and that ignited the Oaks. They controlled play in the latter portion of the half, then outplayed the visitors, ranked number one in the state, throughout the second half.

The Oaks had at least half a dozen solid scoring chances, but could not find the back of the net. Sarah Smith shot just wide, then hit the post on another scoring chance Ashby Larkin missed in close. Brown was on the doorstep, but the ball popped over the goal. Hannah Beale was stone-walled by the St. Catherine keeper. Ann Burns Morrison’s laser sailed inches over the crossbar. It was that kind of day for the Oaks.

The girls play at Cape Henry today at 4:30 in a key TCIS game.
