Defending Champs Win Opener

DSC_6311After a sluggish first half, the girls soccer team dominated the final 20 minutes of the match to defeat Hampton Roads Academy, 3-2, Friday at home.

Sophomore Sofia Johnson scored on a rebound with less than a minute left to set off the Oaks’ celebration. The goal came as Collegiate pressed forward again and again in the Navigators’ end.

Earlier in the second half, freshman Sarah Smith scored on a free kick, hitting the upper third with a laser.

Sophomore Cameron Brown scored late in the first half to tie the game, but the Oaks gave up a goal in the final seconds to fall behind, 2-1, as the half ended.

Senior keeper Jessie Cavolt had a strong game in goal with 11 saves.
