White-Out Game Tonight at Home

DSC_5921You gotta love students with a sense of humor.

It’s a white-out tonight in the Treehouse for the quarterfinal game of the VISAA Division II tournament.

How appropriate is that?

The Oaks, 24-5 and enjoying a stellar season, are the third seed and play sixth seed Millwood, which defeated Hampton Roads Academy, 85-48, on Tuesday. Millwood is 22-9 on the season.

Millwood’s top scorer is Jermaine Matthews Jr., a 6-8 junior who averages 14 points a game.
Millwood gave the Oaks one of their few defeats, 57-51, on December 4 during a tournament game.

DSC_5946On Monday, Norfolk Collegiate lost in the TCIS Championship game to a deep Cape Henry Collegiate squad after playing them tough for the first half, 76-50. The Oaks may have lost the game, but they had the far superior student fan support with the black-out section standing and screaming the entire game.

The Oaks are ranked fourth in Division II and 19th in the state overall by Maxpreps while Millwood is ranked fifth and 20th overall.

So rent a St. Bernard, find a buddy with a four-wheel-drive and a plow, or put on those galoshes and snow pants and walk to Watt-Baker Gymnasium by the 5 p.m. tipoff.

This will be a tight one.
