Boys Win Tournament

DSC_3749Responding to a couple of Kellam High surges with strong runs of their own, the Oaks won the Bishop Sullivan Classic Tuesday night, 68-62. handling pressure down the stretch in a matchup of highly-ranked teams.

Collegiate started with a bang as Mark Madison hit a three and was fouled, making the free throw to give the Oaks a 4-0 lead. They stretched it out during the first quarter, but Kellam came back in the second to take a five-point lead late in the half.

That’s when Collegiate got a key stop, a three, and then with seconds to go Marcus Anderson went the length of the floor for a rim-rocking dunk with just a tick on the clock to knot the game at 37.

Collegiate once again went on a run in the third quarter but the pesky Knights kept hitting threes and scoring on fast breaks. Kellam clawed to a 55-54 lead with just under five minutes to play before Collegiate took control.

Bash Townes, who started slow, led the Oaks with 21 while Madison and Adam Grant scored 13 apiece. Kyonze Chavis had a big game on the boards and hit for 11.
