Tennis Season Ends at State Quarterfinal

DSC_1221The varsity girls tennis team’s season ended with a 7-2 loss in the VISAA state tournament to third-seeded Covenant School in Charlottesville on Tuesday.

The Oaks, seeded sixth, were without their injured number one singles player, who broke her foot just before the tournament.

“In the week prior to the tournament we had to shuffle all of our doubles and all of the singles had to move up a spot,” Coach Debbie Meadows said. “In spite of this, the girls had very positive attitudes and fought hard in their matches.”

Antonia Farny won her match easily at number two singles, 10-3, and Carson McMonagle won in a nail biter at number six singles, 10-8.

Many of the matches were close. The scores were:

#1 singles Rachel Brodsky lost 10-7

#2 singles Antonia Farny 10-3

#3 singles Brooke Walthall lost 10-3

#4 singles Kiersten Potter lost 10-8

#5 singles Natalie Jett lost 11-10

#6 singles Carson McMonagle won 10-8

#1 doubles Brodsky/Farny lost 10-8

#2 doubles Walthall/Jett lost 10-4

#3 doubles Potter/McMonagle lost 10-3

The Oaks finish their season with an overall record of 5-8.
