Girls Tennis Tops Sullivan

DSC_0245Rachel Brodsky clinched a hard-fought victory for the girls tennis team with a win in her number two singles match and the Oaks beat Bishop Sullivan Catholic High School, 6-3, Tuesday afternoon.

Many of the matches were close and the contest could have gone either way if not for some clutch performances.

Brooke Walthall, at number four singles, Kiersten Potter at number five, and Natalie Jett all won matches. Walthall won 3-6,6-4,10-8. Potter won 6-2,6-4. Jett triumphed 6-1,6-4.

The team of Gabrielle Toomy and Brodsky dominated at number one doubles winning 8-3, while Walthall and Potter won at number three doubles, 8-3. The number two doubles team of Toni Farny and Jett lost a close match, 9-7.

DSC_0240The highlight of the day was Walthall’s win at number four singles. After losing the first set 6-3, Brooke came rolling back to win the second set 6-4 and eventually won the third set tiebreaker in a very close 12-10.

The Oaks next match is Tuesday, September 16 at Nansemond-Suffolk Academy.
