Heartbreaker: Baseball Team Drops Opener in Last At Bat

Paul Mahoney pitched two-hit baseball for six innings, but the Oaks couldn’t score and lost their opener, 1-0, to Pasquotank High School on Wednesday.

The winning run scored on a bases-loaded walk with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning.

On offense against a Pasquotank pitcher who changed speeds and took advantage of a wide strike zone, the Oaks could manage only two hits, a single up the middle by Mahoney in the third inning. He was promptly erased trying to steal.

DSC_4719Jimmy Hurley followed with a bloop single to left, but he also was out stealing.

Mahoney struck out three and worked out of a bases-loaded jam in the sixth inning before being relieved by Cabell Thomas.

Jim: Now that the Norcom Greyhounds are state champs (kudos to them for what was an amazing 4Q comeback), I was trying to recall how our Boys fared against them earlier this year. Love your posts. Rob
