Cross Country Team Second Again

Steve!The Collegiate boys cross country team took second on Thursday at the Cape Henry Invitational.

It was the third consecutive meet that the Oaks finished second.

Walsingham Academy won the eight-team meet, contested on Virginia Beach’s Mount Trashmore course in a meet that served as a warm-up for next Thursday’s TCIS Championships at Bells Mill Park in Chesapeake.

On the girls’ side of the ledger, Natalie Batzel finished second overall in the varsity race, running a season-best 21:05.

For the boys, Steve Turack (18:41) and Chad Hengesbach (18:46) finished sixth and seventh respectively to lead the Oaks, with Connor Hopkins (19:39) taking 13th.

Rex Zhang posted his best time ever, running 19:46 to finish in 16th place. Chandler Branton (20:32) took 21st and teammate Harrison Fuller ran a personal-record 20:44 en route to 24th place. Jakob Gray rounded out the varsity effort, finishing 40th. Sixth-grader Chas LeHew ran a PR 21:31 to take sixth in the junior varsity competition.
