Superb serving proved key as the Oaks girls volleyball team won its first TCIS match of the season, defeating Greenbrier Christian three sets to one Tuesday.
Norfolk Collegiate dropped the first set, 25-14, but roared back to win the next three, 25-21, 25-21, and 25-22. “This match could not have been won without the consistent serving of four players,” said Diego Fama, in his second year as an Oaks coach.
Senior Brianna Mitchell with 15 out of 15 serves and two aces, junior Peyton Fancher with 18 out of 18 serves, sophomore Faith Rush with 12 out of 14 and two aces, and Bailey Jones with five aces led the day. Sophomore Joi Harper handled the defense with ten digs.
Sophomore Bailey Jones had a stellar game with nine kills, eight assists, five aces, two blocks and several digs.
The match was the second consecutive strong outing for the girls. On Friday, they won the first two sets against St. Margaret’s 25-10 and 25-20 and we ahead, 22-18, in the third when a power failure ended the match.
The Oaks play at home Friday at 5:30 against Christchurch.
