Cross Country Team Saves Best for Last at State Meet

The Oaks Boys Cross Country team stepped up with its best performance when it counted most in the State Meet, playing sixth out of 33 teams.
“What an incredible ending for what started out as a rebuilding year!,” said Dr. Rob Tupper, the team’s coach
With no seniors in the lineup, the team often finished in the upper or mid part of the pack during the regular season, taking a sixth at the conference meet.
But then, at the State Meet, the NCS Boys Cross Country team took off, placing sixth and beating two conference rivals that had defeated them during the regular season and at the conference meet only a week earlier.

Leading the team was team captain Nate Miller.  Having made All Conference a week earlier, he set his sights on becoming All State. Nate earned a tenth place out of 249 runners, achieving his goal.  Among the remaining top five runners, Jon Taylor – Fishwick pulled in 27th place, while Connor Hopkins, Paul Dougherty and Steve Turack sealed the deal on an impressive finish to a rebuilding year.

The remaining line up Andrew Stracener, Charles Shanker and David Baldwin helped displace other teams’ runners and push their teammates. .

“This was a very impressive finish for this group of runners, and just remember,  no seniors!” Tupper said.  “They will all be back next year with a lot more experience and running much faster.  “
