Girls Volleyball Looks to Tough Win for Tournament Inspiration

The girls’ varsity volleyball team takes a 6-15 record into the TCIS tournament trying to build on a key win earlier this season against Gloucester High School. On foreign turf, the team won their first two sets, then dropped two before pulling out the win in the fifth set, 18-16.

“It was a tough match, and the and the team fought tooth and nail to pull out a victory,” says Coach Dan Lizette. “Being such a far away road match, not many got to see this contest, but it was an impressive show of resiliency from all of the team and a match we regularly point to as evidence of what we are capable of.”

Seniors Melanie Crain and Deepa Chaganty have been steady leaders for the group at Libero and Setter respectively.  Chaganty was injured for the first half of the season and made significant contributions with her return.  Newcomers Erica Hildebrand and Barbie Ballova, a foreign exchange student from Slovakia, have earned starting positions and are standouts, Lizette says.

Lizette says the team will be a low seed at the TCIS tournament, but he’s expecting them to give their best, just as they did in the Gloucester win.
