Girls Tennis Battles Into Tournament

The girls’ tennis team ranks fifth in the state behind Hampton Roads Academy, Cape Henry and two other teams. Coach Debbie Meadows points to a midseason loss against Norfolk Academy as one that flashed the team’s steel.
Both Madison Parker and Sarah Mahoney went to third-set tiebreakeers aginst their opponents. As darkness cloaked the court, Mahoney traded match points until finally clinching at 15-13 against a formidable opponent.

Peyton Johnson has been the team’s top singles player, moving up from number three last season. “She’s a very strong player and with some work, can be competitive with the best of them,” Meadows says.

Johnson earned second team all conference honors in singles while the pairing of Johnson and McCarthy were named to the first team in doubles.
